On this afternoon, Roger, Sindy and I had a brief practise for the song, I met with Pastor Mark then some girls and I headed for Fyzabad. This was the first practical Hairdressing class and Winette wanted everyone to go to her salon in Fyzabad to practise Shampooing on each other.
First of all, thanks and a round of applause to our driver Mr Cleavon for taking us there!! As I started to explain the classes to him, he just asked what time and what day! lol So I thank God once again for our designated driver :).
Well today we had another designated driver. One of the girl's boyfriend in the class also transported some girls to class. Actually we left church without him and he was able to meet us at the Cremation Site a little after the creek and follow us to Winette's salon.
The class was great. The motivation to be there was so high that there was even a student from Tunapuna! lol. (I had to talk to her mom and arrange transportation for her to go home. Thank God Roger was going to the airport after class.) The girls were just so excited!! Everyone observed and listened attentively. Looking at them shampoo and blow dry each other's hair was actually a joy lol. They took their assigned roles so seriously. Even the other designated driver peeked at the window to see what was taking place! lol Of course the girls teased him lol.I was not even needed to do much interpreting. They were able to look at Winette and follow her lead. I was only there to clarify anything that was not so straightforward. This class was their's. I think that one of the most motivating aspect of this class for the Deaf is that it's a hands on class and they are able to be actively involved in the learning process.
Well Winette was kind enough to organise refreshments for us. She made cheese paste sandwiches and served a cold cup of soft drink. This was welcomed by all. Every week she goes beyond to ensure that everyone has a good experience during the class. A round of applause for Winette for her thoughtfullness and tender heartedness! Yay!! The feedback we receive from this class testifies to the impact that Winette is making on these young ladies. Week after week they turn out. They bear the distance and bad weather to be part of the class. Truth be told, some don't even show this enthusiasm and commitment towards church. It is my prayer that the Gospel will be shared even in these settings. I try to insert a Biblical teaching or two whenever I get the opportunity. The salvation of their souls and their relationship with God is most important and that remains our focus. I thank God for placing it upon Winette's heart to volunteer to do this. Now we are to go out and preach the gospel and expose them to the Word of God in ALL areas of life!! Let them see and know that God's Word is not only applicable in church but in day to day living.
Mark 16:15 Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
