Roger, Sindy, Ian, Shevon and I were able to meet and practise the song today. After this, Christa, Shevon, Ian and I held a brief meeting for the Deaf Spelling Bee Competition.
What more can I say about this day? I'm trying to remember if anything in particular stood out to me...hmmm Oh! During the last practise with Shevon, I remember Shevon telling me that when the others come together we will be able to figure out more signs for the song. So said, so done. Sindy was able to tell us some of the signs that we were uncertain about.
Also, it was very easy to work with them. I think I take it for granted but they are very easy to work with. We were able to listen to each other and consider each other's suggestions. What was even more important is that the song was theirs. It was not a song that I was imposing upon them. They learnt the song before and we were simply trying to recall what was taught. So we were all helping each other. I was there to guide with the music but the signing and positioning was all theirs. Coming to think about it, they were teaching me lol.
I LOVE the teamwork and togetherness that is often times absent in hearing groups. The way they pool together their ideas and come up with practical solutions for issues is very impressive. Maybe I am naive. Maybe this may be for this group in particular but it is something we could all learn from. When there is no competition and everyone is working towards a common goal, productivity is sure to come.
"Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success." Henry Ford.
I'm learning day by day.
