Today I was supposed to meet five Deaf persons in church to learn and practice a song. When I arrived at church only Shevon was there. So Shevon and I decided to practice the song together. We worked together and got it done. It was a productive afternoon.
I must say that I really admire Shevon for his commitment. He is definitely an effective leader. He is reliable, responsible, teachable and not afraid to admit his wrongs. The Deaf respect him and I also respect him. He is very secure and he speaks his mind and stands up for what he believes in. Added to all of this, he is a great storyteller and comedian and this makes him a favourite and also well loved by both the hearing and the Deaf. Shevon is without a doubt a people person. I have seen Shevon make several sacrifices in order to ensure that he serves the Deaf community well and lives up to his commitment as the leader of the Deaf Church.
He encourages me. His life encourages me. Always energetic and ready for a good laugh and joke yet never tolerating slackness. There is much I could learn from him. He is such a balanced leader earning the respect of the Deaf and still maintaining healthy friendships. I continue to observe him and learn.
