Today we had another Hairdressing class in Fyzabad at Winette's Beauty Salon. Again, the enthusiam and motivation among the Deaf girls was spectacular! Everyone was thrilled to be there and very alert, attentive and obviously interested in the session. They were able to wash, blow dry and flat iron each other's hair with Winette's supervision and guidance.
I think the thing that stood out to me the most was Linda's skill in hairdressing. She was able to not only remember but also do everything that Winette thought quite effortlessly. She seemed so quite in the theory classes and she just shined in these practical classes. We harassed her boyfriend and told him that he would have to open a Salon for her when he builds his house lol. I could also see how this boosted her self-esteem. When we complimented her on the good job she was doing her pretty face lit up! These little things help me to remember that what we're doing is worthwhile.
The Deaf need opportunities to develop their various gifts and abilities. They are not dis-abled but ABLED. The Deaf are ABLED to do different things and they have talents like everyone else. Whatever it is, they too have a contribution to make and they have something unique to offer the world. I continue to thank God for the input and investment that Winette makes into the lives of these precious girls :)
Another BIG thanks goes out to our designated drivers Mr Cleavon and Linda's boyfriend who took us to Fyzabad. Linda's boyfriend transported two ladies to Siparia and Penal respectively and Mr Cleavon dropped Navita and Himlater straight at home in La Romaine then ensured that Lisa was safely home in San Fernando and could not leave the other Lisa to travel to Princes Towne at Shevon's home by herself, so we also had a long drive to Princes Towne. Another BIG BIG thanks to Mr Cleavon for his selflessness and willingness to go the extra mile again and again!! Thank you Lord for providing him!
I also have to mention how lively Shevon's home was when we got there. Kamal, Lisa's husband was there and Shevon, the man and new father of the house came to greet us despite his painful foot. Mr Cleavon and I were not surprised! It's Shevon, 'mr people person' that we're talking about! It was pleasing to see how he opened his home for guests to come over and make things much more convenient for them. Great job Shev!

If you ain't just the sweetest thing... listen to me, talking like an old lady! Honey, I think it's real fine what you're doing for those folks out there who need help. You just keep on keeping on, and remember that even one person can make a difference in the world.
